Six different flags flew over this area of Northeast Texas during the period from 1831 to 1913. Thus the title "Lee Cemetery Under Six Flags"-- Mexico, The Territory of Arkansas, The Republic of Texas, Confederate, Texas, and The United States.

On March 31st, 1999, Lee Cemetery was listed as a Historic Texas Cemetery, WORTHY OF PRESERVATION, by the Texas Historical Commission.
